    HANS HAVERCAMP – May 9th

Hans was superb! Word had spread of his demonstration and North Ferriby Village Hall was packed. It was an evening of wonderful imagination, technical genius and sheer entertainment!
Before any flowers had been even added to his structures, they were free standing works of art using driftwood, equisetum, Old Man’s Beard and loft insulation board! We were treated to dramatic unveilings of further containers which added to the atmosphere during the evening.

Originally from Holland, Hans grew up in England and has a Father with horticultural knowledge which has not been lost on him. Throughout the evening we were educated about the removal of mucus from strelitzia, the weaving of equisetum, new flower varieties and basic good floral tips! We enjoyed both visual and mental stimulation. Hans is a demonstrator of considerable skill and knowledge having taught in Japan for several years. His love of that culture and artistry is reflected in his manipulation of material, his use of even numbered flower heads and spatial awareness.

Hans created arrangements with a contemporary twist. With an exquisite colour palette, he used Black Tie cordyline with dramatic effect, beautiful violet and amber/mahogany Vanda orchids, Tropic Light and Midori anthurium and the breathtaking Command Performance peony to name but a few! His final piece was centred around three five foot high slender vases filled with green liquid arranged with moss balls, velvet covered apples and upside down amarylis filled with hydrangea heads! Intrigued? We were!

We will be going on a coach trip to the garden of NEWBY HALL on June 13th. Members and guests are welcome and the tickets are £30 each to include travel, entry and coffee on arrival. Tickets are available from Margaret Hobson on 01482 634114 Do come and join us.
